Shockwave therapy instead of surgery
Shockwaves are simply sound waves. When inflamed or sick cells come in contact with them, neurotransmitters which promote the healing process in the inflamed area are released. Severely hardened tissues or calcifications can be induced to disintegrate.
In 1–3 sessions over a course of about three weeks, the body part in question is treated with 1000–1400 shockwave pulses. Depending on the severity and location of the problem, this treatment may be performed with or without local anesthesia. Non-healing bone fractures often need to be treated under brief general anesthesia.
